Epic Battle Unfolds in Tokyo
Tennis history was made at Ariake Tennis Park in Tokyo as German star Alexander Zverev rallied from a set down to defeat 20-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic 1-6, 6-3, 6-1, securing the gold medal in the men's singles competition.
A Setback and a Comeback
Djokovic, who was aiming for the "Golden Slam" of winning all four Grand Slams and the Olympic gold in the same year, began the match with a dominant opening set, but Zverev refused to be deterred. The 24-year-old German dug deep, finding his rhythm in the second set and taking it 6-3. In the decisive set, Zverev took control, breaking Djokovic's serve twice and cruising to a 6-1 victory.
