Algeria is protesting the United States
ALGER - Algeria has protested to the United States. Algeria's Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf officially complained about US's vote to suspend Russia from the Human Rights Council. The vote took place on April 8 in New York. Attaf complained to the U.S. ambassador on May 2, 2024.
Russia’s Response
Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that Russia is determined to strengthen its relationship with Algeria. Lavrov met with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Tuesday.
Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin also visited Algiers in May 2024, to discuss regional and international issues.
Algeria has a long history of close ties with Russia. Algeria was one of the first countries to recognize the Soviet Union in 1922.
